Calvary Culture

The Discipleship Journey

Romans 12:1-2

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Mission Statement: Living on mission together by celebrating, cultivating, committing, and connecting people with Jesus.
The Calvary Culture is a way that we look at what God has called us to do and how we desire to live our lives. We believe every person who has trusted Christ for salvation should be discipled in a local church body. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit, the fellowship of the body, and one’s personal growth in Christ that maturity is achieved. The Calvary Culture is intended to help answer the following questions:

How does a person become a fully committed follower of Christ at Calvary Church?
What is our expectation of every person who is a part of Calvary Church?

The discipleship journey is never accomplished and it is the Holy Spirit that transforms our lives. As we grow in Christ, these four areas of our lives should continue to increase. The Christian life is balanced within these four areas and a maturing believer should play an active role in each of these four steps.

Celebrate

We celebrate the gospel of Jesus Christ and what He has accomplished for us on the cross and through His resurrection.

Luke 15:22-24

“But the father said to his servants, Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to celebrate.”

Every time we come together, it is a celebration of Christ’s work in our lives through the gospel. We gather to worship God with gratitude because of who He is and what He has done. We do this weekly in our worship services as well as daily in our walk with God. We will never get over what Christ has done for us. Every time we come together, it is a celebration that Christ has brought us out of our hopeless lives of sin and that He has brought us into a new power and life. We are a people who have been forgiven much and have much to celebrate.

Cultivate

We cultivate our hearts to grow deeply through His Word and Spirit in our lives.

Ephesians 4:14-16

“So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

As believers in Christ, it is our responsibility to be actively growing in maturity and equipped for the work of the Lord through the study of the Scriptures and in prayer. We seek to grow daily in our personal lives as well as together in community. It is our passion to help people of every age grow in the gospel of Jesus Christ no matter where they are in their spiritual journey.

Community

We unite with the community God has given us.

Ephesians 2:17-22

And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near; 18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

As followers of Christ, we enjoy, operate through, and protect the community God has given us, which is His church, His body, His family, and His unity.

Commit

We commit to God’s plan through His church by giving of ourselves for the work of the Gospel.

Romans 12:4-9

“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”

We are committed to seeing the gospel lived out in our daily lives through the giving of our gifts, talents, and finances within the local church. We believe God has placed the local church as a protection and accountability for discipleship. God has designed every person to be an active part of a local church by serving and giving of themselves and his or her resources.

Connect

We connect people to Jesus through our relationships and influence.

Matthew 28:18-20

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Every believer is responsible for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in his or her sphere of influence as well as around the world. It is our goal as a church that every believer is actively engaging the world with the truth of Christ and the need for salvation through personal evangelism, corporate evangelism, and the participation and support of missions around the world.
